The Modern Age is the fifth Age encountered in the game (despite this, it is listed as Age 4 due to the naming conventions). Multiple ores are revealed in this Age, including Cobalt and Ardite, they can be used to make the alloy of Manyullyn. In this Age you can travel to the End. Some of the new tech includes Applied Energistics, Pneumaticraft, and Galacticraft. ME and RS systems become available for bulk storage of items.
In order to progress to the next age, you need to launch a Rocket and land on the Moon. The previous Age is the Industrial Age and the next Age is the Futuristic Age.
Materials[]
Assorted quartz and silicon will appear in the Overworld, and ardite and cobalt ore will appear in the Nether. Assorted quartz will drop nether quartz, black quartz, certus quartz, and charged certus quartz when mined. Notably, the End also becomes accessible this stage. Players will need to collect resources from an End City in order to make advanced ender alloy and progress.
Mobs[]
As the End is now accessible, Shulkers are a new mob type. Player skin mobs will now start to appear in the Overworld. Some hunting dimension mobs may also spawn in the overworld, albeit they are more rare. Mobs will have the same odds of holding items or wearing armour as in the previous two stages: Iron sword or armour (50% chance), and gold sword or armour (25% chance).
The End[]
Since accessing The End requires visiting a Stronghold that is usually far away, it can be convenient to have a quick way to return their in case of an untimely death, or for a later visit. While at this point you will not have unlocked "teleportation", per se, you do have access to the Astral Sorcery Gateways. These multi block structures will allow you to jump around in a manner that is basically teleporting (just technically without a teleporter). The only downside? It requires a clear view to the Sky or Bedrock. But, it doesn't require any power!
